Hi. I'm S-Jay. I have been singing since I was knee high to a grasshopper. I am a versatile singer/performer and have been performing professionally for 3 years. I think the word that sums me and my musical taste up is 'eclectic'.
I am based near Colchester in Essex and use only the best quality backing tracks, I am a self contained performer with top quality PA and lighting systems.
My shows cover a wonderful mix of songs from the 50's, through to the naughties! Music has always been a passion for me. I love all genres and want to share with others my love of well known songs and then the rarer tracks that in my opinion deserve to be heard. To ensure you have the type of music to suit your occassion I like to take the time to disucss my set list with you, so that it sets the right tone and ambience for your event or party.
So now for a bit more about me:
My musical journey began when I was 8. Three very different female performers made a huge impression on me. The first was Debbie Harry, not only gorgeous to look at but sounded so of the moment. The hours I spent trying to get my lips to look like hers and sing like she did!!! The second was Dolly Parton, my mum had the album Both Sides Of Dolly Parton, and I loved all the different styles and the stories her lyrics wove. Last but by no means least was Kate Bush, pushing the boundaries and with amazing backing vocals that always had somehting new to offer with every listen. Also during this period I was inspired by artists as diverse as, Siouxsie Soux, Karen Carpenter, Patti Smith. All these women had one thing in common, they wrote classic songs and knew how to deliver them so you felt the meaning instantly.
Pocket money was always spent immediately, I was straight down to John Menzies to scour the charts and pick the song I wanted that week.Years later my Dad despaired I would ever move out as so much money had been spent on going to concerts and CD's!
I also love male vocal songs and do perform many of these as well. The artists who inspire me are, singers with ranges like Robert Plant, who can free form like no one else I have heard, through to the smooth vocal performances of Frank Sinatra are to be admired. Then there are the rock legends such as Adam Ant and Jack White, showmen who brought their own sound to their genre and rebooted the music scene.
The duo I am in has a page on this website, 'Area 5'. We perform our own versions of classic rock and pop songs from the 60's to the present day. Keeping true to the heart of the original whilst giving the track a twist to keep it fresh.
