I'm Sara-Jane Claydon, known to friends as S-Jay. I have been singing since I was knee high to a grasshopper. I am a versatile singer/performer and have sung in amateur musical theatre shows, pubs, clubs and parties. I think the word that sums me and my musical taste up is 'eclectic'.
I am based near Colchester in Essex.
I use only the best quality backing tracks, I am a self contained performer with top quality PA and lighting systems.
My shows cover a wonderful mix of female vocal songs from the 50's, through to the naughties! Music has always been a passion for me. I love all genres and want to share with others my love of well known songs and then the rarer tracks that in my opinion deserve to be heard.
So now for a bit more about me:
My musical journey began when I was 8. Two very different female performers made a huge impression on me. The first was Debbie Harry, not only gorgeous to look at but sounded so of the moment. The hours I spent trying to get my lips to look like hers and sing like she did!!! The second was Dolly Parton, my mum had the album Both Sides Of Dolly Parton, and I loved all the different styles and the stories her lyrics wove. Also during this period I was inspired by artists as diverse as, Siouxsie Soux, Karen Carpenter, Kate Bush, Patti Smith.
All these women had one thing in common, they wrote classic songs and knew how to deliver them so you felt the meaning instantly.
My pocket money was always spent immediately, I was straight down to John Menzies to scour the charts and pick the song I wanted that week.Years later my Dad despaired I would ever move out as so much money had been spent on going to concerts and CD's!
I also love male vocal songs and do perform many of these as well. Singers with ranges like Robert Plant, who can free form like no one else I have heard through to the smooth vocal performances of Frank Sinatra are to be admired.
I'm also lucky enough to be singing in a great rock covers band called The Rubb. Very different to my solo work!
